Q: Why, on some days, do I wake up feeling like I look like the Bride of Frankenstein?
A. We 've all been there. Some days we wake up wanting to hide our heads in a bag even though we know our looks haven't drastically changed overnight. These type of scenarios make it clear that feeling pretty is a state of mind, not a state of face. These 15 tips will help you cop a whole new beauty 'tude!

1. Remember that your outer beauty is a reflection of your inner beauty, so start feeling prettier by making an effort to like your looks. When you start caring about your appearance, you begin to take care of your whole being.

2. Instead of focusing on your flaws, get stoked about your plus points. Whatever your good features are (and everyone has them!)--your big brown eyes, your cute nose or your full lips--take time to appreciate them. It'll go a long way toward bolstering your beauty confidence.

Q:I can never figure out how to tweeze my eyebrows. What’s the correct way?

A.Conservatively! Tweezing is an art in itself, and many of us have gotten overly artistic and made our brows ghastly, ghostly or gone. The best, always-fashionable look is a natural shape — one that follows the natural curve of your eye and your lid. The length and arch of the "perfect" brow is different for everyone, but it should follow along your browbone, which you can feel if you run your finger along your eyebrow. With a magnifying mirror, pluck the hairs under and over the bone. Tweeze one hair at a time in the direction it grows. Next, to find the right length for you, look in the mirror and hold a pencil from the side of your nostril past the outside corner of your eye. Tweeze until your brow doesn’t extend past the pencil. Tweeze stray hairs between brows, too. Another way to find the right shape for you is to use a stencil. There's a huge variety to choose among (and browse through for ideas) at eyebrowz.com

An ace pair of tweezers is essential. Tweezerman makes a great stainless-steel number with a slanted tip that "grabs" hairs. It’s kind of expensive (about $20), but definitely worth the investment! If your skin screams "oh, pluck" and goes red and crazy on you, soothe it with a dab of witch hazel or Sea Breeze.

Q:My breath could knock a buzzard off a manure wagon. Even my phone stinks. Please help!

A.Your mouth is a breeding ground for over 200 different types of bacteria. So when you’re lazy about oral hygiene, the bacteria explode and you get death breath. The cure? Floss, brush and rinse with mouthwash at least twice a day. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, gums and the roof of your mouth, where bacteria hide. Two great breath-busters are Mentadent Toothpaste and Dual Action Mouthwash. If you take medications like antihistamines and decongestants that dry the mouth, the stinky stuff breeds faster, causing even more rank breath. You should drink lots of water and investigate breath mints or mint-flavored gum to combat cotton mouth associated with the medication. Quite possibly, though, your problem could be caused by what you are or aren’t eating. Gorging on garlic, overeating sugar or starch, not eating at all, smoking (ugh), alcohol and coffee can all create stinky acid in your digestive system. Take an objective look at what’s going down your gullet. Carry BreathAsure natural gel capsules, which work in your body to snuff smells from the inside out.

Q:I have a problem: My face won’t stop shining. Please help me find a cure

A.Welcome to the oily skin club. That shine comes from excessive oil secretions, which are usually caused by hormones and genes (thank your mom and dad). And be prepared: It’ll get worse during the summer. Fortunately for those of us with oily skin, there are some quick fixes that make a shine-free existence possible. Wash your skin with a gentle, oil-free soap or cleanser. We swear by Johnson & Johnson’s Purpose soap (in the blue box) available at most supermarkets and drugstores. Go for an oil-free toner like Almay’s Sensitive Care Toner, which will smooth out and tighten up your pores. A great, brand-new moisturizer is Lancôme’s HydraContrôle, which we think they made specifically for oily girls like us. HydraContrôle absorbs oil all day long, provides just the right amount of moisture and gives your skin a perfect matte finish. Obviously, you should be choosing oil-free makeup to cut down on the amount of oil on your skin. We love Cover Girl’s Balanced Complexion Liquid Makeup, which like Lancôme’s HydraContrôle, contains oil absorbers and gives great coverage. Beware: Your inclination to dry out your skin to compensate for your oil problem is oh-so-wrong. You’re actually stimulating your glands, which then protest by producing more oil!

When it comes to styling products, less is definitely better. "Most people use way too much gel or mousse," says Rocky Lyons, owner of Lyons Salon in Miami, Florida. "That's why their hair doesn't work." You'll have to experiment to find the right amount, he says, but a good starting point, for medium-thick, shoulder-length hair is to use 3/4 teaspoon of gel or a golf- ball-sized dollop of mousse. Adjust the amount if your hair is shorter or longer.

For volume, lift hair at the roots.

"You get 90 percent of fullness from the first inch of hair at the scalp," says Chenzo Balsamo, owner of Chenzo & Co. Salon in Boca Raton, Florida. Use a vent brush or extend your fingers to lift sections of hair two to three inches upward. (Ends will dry as you work your roots, and you'll have more tousled body if they finish drying on their own.)

Go easy with mega-hold gels, mousses or sprays.
You may think high hold levels work better for finer or straight hair, but they can weigh hair down, making it look limp and greasy. Try a light-to-medium hold product, like Dep Alcohol-Free Spray Gel Extra Shine with Light Control.

"Summer is a time when heat and humidity can really take a toll on your style. Regardless of how you choose to style your hair, whether it’s curly or straight, it’s important to use the right products to keep your hair sleek and healthy," says Harry Josh, creative consultant for the John Frieda Collection. "Follow my tips below and you'll be able to get the same salon results at home this summer."

Start with a shampoo and conditioner that helps block out moisture and keeps your style intact like the Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Shampoo and Conditioner from the John Frieda Collection. This shampoo and conditioner adds a protective barrier to the hair that will shield out unwanted moisture and lock in the needed moisture so that your hair stays healthy and shiny. It also protects from UV rays that can damage hair. From there, you can style your hair as you choose and feel confident that your style will last throughout your summer activities.

Tips to Style Curly Hair:
# Once hair is toweled dry, I applied a dime-size amount of the Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Style Sealent Crème from root to end to help control the frizz and make hair more manageable.
# Next, I blow-dried her hair, wrapping pieces around my fingers to give it a natural curl.
# Now that her hair is completely dry, I’m going to rub a small amount of John Frieda Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Serum between my palms and apply it to the ends. This product is perfect to add instant shine and a finishing touch to your style. The result is healthy looking with an ultrashiny finish.
# Also, if you’re a blonde, try spraying a bit of the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Tousled Tresses Fine Mist Wax for the perfect undone look.
# If you’re a brunette wearing this style, add a small amount of John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock Perfecting Glosser to add extra shine and illuminate the brown tones.
Tips to Style Straight Hair:
# For this style, I applied a small amount of the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Serum onto the hair when it was wet to protect hair from damage caused by blow-drying and using a flat iron. Then I blow-dried the hair with a large, round brush.
# Especially during the summer, hair can really lack luster and become dry. Applying a bit of the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Crème is the key to instantly transforming puffy, parched hair into ultrashiny, soft hair. Take a dime-size amount and run it through the hair from root to end for a smooth, supple look.
# If you’re a brunette, try the John Frieda Satin Shine Finishing Crème. It leaves hair silky without making it greasy.
# If you’re a blonde, try substituting the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Thermal Serum for the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Spotlight Sleek & Shine Detangler, concentrating on the ends of hair. This will add a layer of shimmer and illuminate the highlights.
